Sally Halterman, first woman in Washington D.C. to obtain a motorcycle licence in 1937, at 4 foot 11, 88 pounds, and 27 years old.

"First he said I was too little, then he said I was too young" she said of the officer testing her. As with most influential ladies, she did everything just as good as anyone but was still denied her licence. So she walked away empty handed.

I kid, I kid.

She cussed him out until she got the permit.

  1. I love her. I love her so, so much.

  2. Y'know, most motorcycles in 1937 WERE rather large . . . the Honda 250 had yet to be dreamt of, much less invented. (I say this as a small [though not as small as her] woman who tried to learn to ride a motorcycle only about 20 years ago . . . that's one thing you learn better, younger.) This woman had not only guts, but also physical muscle and balance.
